Is bookkeeping in demand?

Where to start… I got this question, or a variation on this question, quite a bit when I opened my business.

  • Are you going to do taxes too ?

  • Is there enough business to generate an income from just bookkeeping ?

  • Why aren’t you going to do taxes ? - Maybe in the future though right ?

To answer all those questions I think it mostly boils down to one thing. Are you willing to put in the work to find the clients you want ? Now stay with me, because its easy for me to say, just work harder, but thats not exactly what I mean. As long as their are entrepreneurs operating businesses, there will be a need for bookkeeping services. I have found in my experiences to date that simply talking to everyone is the neon sign that will attract business owners to your services. Spending thousands of dollars of ads and placing the perfect billboard is not necessary. Now, to follow up on that, Don’t be fake, to put that bluntly, and start a business relationship on the idea that you can help and ad value to another business owner, not the focus on the potential dollar sign. Business is creating relationships and nurturing them on an ongoing basis. Be yourself and someone will see you.

Now as for taxes… i’m not a fan. I have great relationships with my clients and I set each of them up with the information they need for their business to be successful. I genuinely enjoy working with each of them and providing solutions where they are struggling. I LOVE my clients, but not enough to do their taxes. Now never say never in business because there is always an opportunity for growth both personally and professionally, and I think it depends what your exceptions are for your business and time management (or great teams !)

So is bookkeeping in demand ? HECK YES it is !
